How To Stop Sim Pedals From Sliding On The Floor

If you haven’t got a sim racing rig or somewhere to mount your sim racing pedals then you have probably encountered the annoying issue of your sim racing pedals sliding on the floor when you press on the throttle or brake pedals.

Fortunately, there are a few quick and easy solutions to this annoying problem!

Buying a wheel stand off of Amazon is the best option as it provides a secure mounting point for your pedal and wheels, whilst still being small enough to be stored easily. If you are not wanting to spend any money then putting your pedals on top of a non-slip mat, like a yoga mat, will provide enough grip to keep most basic pedals in place, and if you’re handy with tools and like a bit of D.I.Y then there are mounting options that can be made out of a few pieces of wood and some screws.

The Best Option

The best option for stopping your sim racing pedals from sliding around everywhere is to hard mount them directly to something. Fortunately, there is no need to go out and get a dedicated sim rig for this just yet.

Sim racing wheel stands such as the GT Omega Apex which you can get off of Amazon, offer a way to attach your pedals and wheelbase to something that it’s solid enough to prevent movement but still temporary enough that you can pack it away in a closet or under a desk when it is not in use to keep it out of sight.

Wheel stands are nowhere near as expensive as a full sim racing rig so they represent great value for money if you’re looking to hard mount your sim racing gear without breaking the bank. Unless you’re planning on getting a rig in the near future, a wheel stand is going to not only be the best option in the short term but the long term as well. Providing a reliable and robust setting for your sim racing equipment, a wheel stand is a fantastic solution.

There are several different options available on Amazon at different price points and different brands. Make sure that the wheel stand that you get is compatible with your current wheel and pedal setup, as they are not a one-size-fits-all solution a lot of the time.

Free or Cheap Options

There are a handful of solutions to stopping your sim racing pedals from sliding on the floor that uses items that you may already have laying around the house.

Some items that you might find useful, include:

Both of these options simply get placed on the floor, and then your pedals go on top of them. As they’re already designed to be non-slip on both sides of the mat, it provides plenty of friction that is required to keep your pedals in place.

If your pedal set has carpet teeth included (they’ll be a flip-up/down row of spikes on the underside of your pedals) then this will make it even better. Just be aware that if they’re digging into something like a yoga mat, then it will probably leave some marks on the surface which might damage it if you plan on using it for other purposes.

The other free option is, if you can, relocate your pedals so that the back of them is hard up against a wall. This will reduce almost all unwanted movement in all directions, and can be combined with the non-slip mat option for a really solid, and cheap, solution. This was my solution to my sim racing pedals sliding on the floor for years before I ended up getting a rig.

DIY Options

If you’re the D.I.Y type, then many sim racers have fashioned custom mounting options that help keep their pedals in place. Often, they’re no more complex than a few pieces of wood, some screws, and the mounting points on the bottom of your pedals.

Here are a few examples of some of these D.I.Y options

As you can see, they are super simple designs that won’t cost much in resources, and won’t take much time to build. You can probably use the two examples to inspire your own custom solution to mounting your pedals if you’re so inclined.

It’s a good option as a middle ground between the non-slip matt under the pedals, and a wheel stand to hard mount them on.

Wrap Up

Whether you’re looking for a cheap fix to an annoying problem, or you’re looking at spending a little bit of money in return for a permanent fix, there are a couple of different solutions to stopping your pedals from sliding on the floor when you’re sim racing.

If you’re looking at a permanent fix to the issue, then by far the best solution without completely breaking the bank is to have a look at wheel stands. There are plenty of options that you can pick up for less than a couple of hundred dollars.

If you’re looking for a temporary, but cheap or potentially free option, then you can look into either getting non-slip mats from your local homewares store, or even cheap Yoga mats do the job nicely.

Finally, if you’re handy with some tools, then many sim racers have built their own customer temporary mounting solutions with not much more than a few pieces of wood and a couple of screws.
